Why can't some app-ads.txt lines be verified against sellers.json?

Updated Oct 7, 2026 · data from 12 App Store genres · top free + top grossing charts · US · iOS + Android

Short answerSome ad systems don't publish a readable sellers.json: there's no file, it isn't valid JSON, it's empty, or the server refuses automated requests. Lines for those ad systems can't be checked.
683 of 883 ad-monetized top US apps in this index have this finding (77%)

Why it matters

This is a gap on the ad system's side, so no points are deducted from apps. Buyers may still treat paths through unverifiable ad systems with more caution.

How to fix it

  1. Ask the partner to publish sellers.json at the root of its domain, as the IAB Tech Lab sellers.json specification describes, and to allow automated access to it.
